The Position
The position of Senior Manager of Project Development is located at our Arlington, VA headquarters. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of project developers. We are seeking an ideal candidate with a robust understanding of the solar industry and solar project development, encompassing aspects such as real estate and local permitting. A significant requirement for this role is a proven track record of successfully taking solar projects from their inception through the development phase to achieving the Notice to Proceed (NTP). A comprehensive knowledge of county zoning practices and solar energy is essential, as you will play a pivotal role in advising and guiding your team through intricate zoning procedures. Prior experience in project development is a prerequisite.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of project developers to ensure the acquisition of local zoning permits for projects.
- Offer guidance and serve as a subject matter expert in solar development for internal members of the development team.
- Oversee the preparation of zoning applications, including local tax modeling and community engagement.
- Ensure effective coordination between internal environmental and zoning permitting teams.
- Provide direction to the internal development team regarding the management of external consultant budgets and scopes.
- Engage with landowners and community stakeholders to cultivate positive, long-term relationships with host communities.
- Deliver updates on project budgets, progress, and timelines to management.
- Lead and participate in zoning negotiations.
- Guarantee the achievement of project milestones throughout the development process, which includes organizing data for presentation to management to assess development risk and spending at various project stages.
- Collaborate effectively with other departments to maintain clear communication and foster smooth collaboration throughout the project development process.
- Travel to project sites and attend stakeholder meetings as required.
Required experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience managing multiple solar development projects.
- A college degree is mandatory.
- Possess expertise in a business function relevant to the development process.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent negotiation and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency in creating forms, letters, and basic spreadsheets using MS Word and Excel, as well as creating presentations in PowerPoint and conducting internet-based research.
- Self-motivated with the capability to work both independently and within a team.
- A safe driving record and a valid driver's license.
- Physical capability to traverse undeveloped land unaided, travel independently, and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Availability to work evenings for meetings and community events.
- The expectation of 30-40% regional travel during business hours to fulfill job responsibilities.

$145-$175k base plus bonus
