Role:

The company is seeking a highly motivated individual to assume a pivotal role in managing our Project Development endeavors in the U.S. As the Project Developer, you will oversee the development of key markets and Matrix's project portfolio in the U.S., with a reporting line to the Head of Development. Your responsibilities will include leveraging your experience and acumen to identify risks and opportunities, evaluate the quality of work executed by the company's developers, and provide insights to Matrix on the risks and opportunities associated with these projects. Demonstrating maturity, you will represent the company's interests with local teams and stakeholders, confidently advocating for Matrix even in the face of opposition from developers or stakeholders. You should possess a robust network of connections within the U.S. development and electricity industry. Comprehensive familiarity with all facets of renewable energy project development, encompassing wind, solar, and storage, is essential. Throughout the development phase, you will collaborate with internal Matrix teams and external partners to ensure timely acquisition of permits, authorizations, and licenses required for projects to attain Ready to Build ("RTB") status. Additionally, you will manage the coordination between project RTB and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) from the company's assets as part of your responsibilities.

Skills:

  • Spearhead the development of projects by engaging with local authorities, landowners, communities, developers, off-takers, and transmission authorities.
  • Possess extensive experience collaborating with all stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record and proficiency in analytical, financial, and research tasks, including adeptness with financial models and comprehensive due diligence in project development.
  • Monitor the development status of projects in the pipeline, coordinating with developers to ensure timely project delivery to the Ready to Build (RTB) stage.
  • Manage project schedules by defining activities, sequencing tasks, estimating resources and durations.
  • Oversee relationships with landlords and tenants, and demonstrate proficiency in real estate management practices across diverse U.S. regions.
  • Handle community and public relations pertinent to the project.
  • Facilitate a seamless transition of development activities to the operations department.
  • Assist in implementing the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Company policy at the local level, ensuring compliance with contemporary standards, regulations, and industry best practices. Promptly identify and address any ESG issues, and engage with stakeholders as necessary.
  • Uphold the highest standards of anticorruption practices across all stakeholder interactions.‍

Requirements

  • BA or BS in a relevant field and an MBA or MA in a relevant field
  • 3+ years of energy industry experience in a project development, project administration, project management, asset management, transmission planning and management, contract administration, deal execution, project finance and other commercial roles
  • Experience developing projects in ERCOT is preferred or other ISOs
  • Full understanding of the development, construction, and operational processes for solar projects in various regions of the U.S.
  • Comfortable attending lobbying events both at the national and local level, in both political and civil service spheres
  • Good industry contacts with large generators, developers, transmission providers and off-takers
  • Strong decision-making skills in light of uncertainty
  • An ability to perform at a high level in a matrixed organization, working in interdepartmental teams to achieve objectives and manage multiple projects and development relationships simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Strong entrepreneurial, organizational, analytical and people skills
  • Solid communication skills: capability to establish technical discussions in different cultural environments
  • Ability to travel to our FL headquarters and throughout the U.S. to meet stakeholders around Matrix projects

Compensation:

Base salary: $120-140k base plus bonus and LTI
