Company:

Our client is revolutionizing scientific research across multiple STEM disciplines, looking to hire a General Counsel to lead the team. 

The Role will be focused on providing legal advice to ensure the advancement of the company’s growth within Renewable Energy.  You will be responsible for overseeing an impressive team of attorneys and implementing the best practices for the company’s research and development activities.

The research conducted by our client is transformative across multiple disciplines of science and technology, including Renewable Energy, Physics, and more. With prodigious support from the Department of Energy, you will be joining an impressive and continuously growing research team. 

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the best minds in engineering, scientists, technicians, administrative professionals. 

Role:

  • Head attorney responsible for overseeing the lab’s legal matters including and not limited to contracts, legal advice, coordinating internal and external legal matters, etc.
  • Manage the entire legal team and liaise with legal teams who conduct work with the lab.
  • Heavy involved in Federal Contract negotiations, such as procurements, cooperative agreements, strategic partnerships, and more.
  • Provide strategic advice and implement plans for non-routine, difficult and/or sensitive legal issues as well as analyze risk exposure.

Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Must hold a J.D. from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice in Illinois or admitted to a State Bar of any US State or the District of Columbia.
  • 10-15 years of experience drafting and negotiating contracts, including contracts involving federal agencies and/or federal funding.
  • Extensive preexisting knowledge of Environmental Law, Government Acts (current and upcoming), Litigation Management, and Federal Regulations.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage responsibilities and people .
  • Experience working with the Department of Energy.

Compensation:

  • $200-280k base (flexible)
