This company’s storage projects provide major utilities with a multitude of important services, including reliable fast-ramping capacity, energy, and ancillary grid services, including renewable energy integration support. The Company is independently owned and is among the largest players in the US energy storage sector with a 15+ GWh pipeline and about 1.7 GWh of projects already in operation, construction, or advanced development under contract with utilities and other power buyers. The company is HQ in Orange County, CA with employees in multiple regions across the U.S. Our diverse management team has many decades of experience in the renewable energy, utility, and independent power sectors.

Position Overview: 

  • Offer expertise in energy risk management, asset valuation, deal structuring, and quantitative modeling across implementation projects, software pilots, sales demonstrations, and internal contexts.
  • Guide users on optimizing the cQuant Analytics Platform for modeling intricate deal structures, assets, and contracts while exploring innovative applications of existing features.
  • Act as a conduit between energy market practitioners and quantitative modeling teams, fostering knowledge exchange.
  • Translate customer requirements into detailed analytical specifications for implementation by the quantitative development team.
  • Become proficient in energy analytics software platforms, providing methodological training and support directly to users.
  • Lead project teams in validating analytical enhancements through targeted testing to ensure alignment with analytical, business, and performance criteria.
  • Mentor and oversee Energy Analyst team members, ensuring efficient task management and development.
  • Communicate timelines and client expectations effectively to facilitate successful feature updates by the development team.

Required Skills and Expertise:

  • In-depth knowledge of wholesale renewable energy and battery storage analytics, including expertise in power purchase agreements and associated contracting structures.
  • Proficiency in valuation and risk management strategies for thermal generation assets, with a nuanced understanding of operational characteristics and constraints.
  • Strong grasp of United States wholesale electricity markets, regional dynamics, and their impact on asset value and risk.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a consultative approach to advising clients on asset valuation, risk management, and portfolio optimization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for pivot tables, ad hoc data analysis, and report-quality visualizations.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring junior team members in internal and external projects.
  • Ability to thrive independently or within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with R or Python for data wrangling and analysis.

Education and Experience:

  • 8-10 years of experience in the energy industry, focusing on risk management, asset valuation, deal structuring, or energy trading.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, quantitative finance, economics, statistics, computer science, or physics.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $130,000 - $175,000 plus bonus
